Don’t Become a Sell Out!

Everyone has their reasons for becoming involved in music.  You can be led into the industry for anything. Being star struck or just have something ‘good’ to say are all good reasons.  No matter what your intentions, there are some things to keep in mind when you take the Indie artist route with music.

If you look at popular music, you will notice that most of America is starting to catch on to the trend.  It’s not about the music.  It’s about looking good, shaking your booty, and being in pimple commercials.  Not only is this creating a new ‘look’ for musicians everywhere, but it is also a controversial way to approach music.
As an Indie Artist, you are representing an entire population of musicians.  Even if you want to be the sexy, blond haired girl that can dance, there is a committment to being an Indie artist that is different than a record deal.

Whether you are at a coffee shop or a 10,000 seat stadium, your presentation as an independent artist will leave a mark on every person that sees you as a presentation for the entire indie industry.  Don’t sell out yourself or your music!  Not only are you presenting yourself, you are presenting an entire set of musicians who are waiting to get where you are.

No matter what stage of independent music you are at, remember to keep it about the song.
