Getting Into the Indie Attitude

If you are an Indie artist that is just beginning, or has been trying to build a reputation in your community for a while, you know how difficult it is to become known.  It takes consistent gigs, marketing, efforts and ideas to continue to pursue your dream.

When working towards your goals, you should always keep in mind that the resources you need are already there for you.  It is simply tapping into what you want and keeping focus on the overall goals that you have.

If you have the goal of having four CDs and traveling around the world with your music, always remember it is possible for you to do!  You don’t need anyone telling you how to do it, where to go or what to play.  That is the beauty of being an Indie artist.

The only thing that you have to do is have faith about your goals and not let anything stand in the way.  Being an Indie artist is about independence, meaning that you have freedom to do what you want when you want to.  Whether it is a tour, CD or different genre of music, keep your attitude as an Indie artist and you will get far.

I think the hard part for many indies is managing their business - it’s rare that good business sense and music talent go hand in hand. It’s important to understand your strengths and weaknesses, and to not be so proud that you don’t seek advice when you need it.

Managing a budget, and producing albums, and touring, and promoting is hard, but the rewards will be worth it!
