Panic! At the Disco

Panic at the Disco What do you get when you throw a circus, some emo music, heavy electronica, punk, and laternative together? You might get one of the most successful indie bands ever, and certainly the most successful of 2005.

Panic! At the Disco has built on an unlikely yet incredible mixture of eclectic tastes and exploded onto the rock scene. The band’s debut album A Fever You Cant Sweat Out sold more than one million copies in the first year of its release.

Perhaps the very mix of styles is responsible for the Las Vegas’ band’s huge success. Certainly, there is something here for everyone. The punk is to the forefront in “The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage”, although the introduction and the verses have definite Spanish dance vibes to them as well as an incredibly brave synth solo. “But It’s Better If You Do” is definite funk mixed with some circus tent solos, while “Lying is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off” is an emotional trip from creepy anger to blazing anger, Brendon Urie’s vocals fearlessly followed by both his and Ryan Ross’ guitars.

If you can’t guess from the song titles, the band really tends to focus on early adulthood issues like split romances and triangle tragedies, all tinged with a growing awareness of the sad state of the human condition. Not many bands can really claim to have broke out of every mould and fashioned a sound all their own, destined to be emulated, but Panic! might have opened the door to what might be the new millenium’s first definitive genre.

Panic at the disco’s style is very different from others I have listened to, they are a mix of indie, some kind of rock, a good pop and some dance music too, all this mixture, even though a lot of people doubt it, came out to be a great thing to hear, doesn’t it?

I absolutely love Panic! At the Disco, and was able to see them live about a year and a half ago. They are pretty good live, and they sang most of their songs, with the exception of one, I believe. Brendon Urie is so talented, as is Ryan Ross, who wrote the majority of the songs. Such a great and original band. They definitely have a unique sound and look, which I definitely appreciate.

I cannot believe I have not commented here yet. I 100% love this band, and am counting the days to hear their new album. From what I hear their lyrics have matured, and they focus more on instrumentals as compared to synthesized sounds. Just an incredible band. Lucky you Jewel! I haven’t seen them live yet but I am dying too.

Purpleband-aid, I think you are referring to the song called “Build God, Then We’ll Talk”.

I cannot wait to get their new cd that is due out in March, I’m already super excited. They really are incredible, and I still can’t believe I was able to see them live.

Yeah, I am still counting the days for their new release. It shouldn’t be too much longer now, but until then I still have their first, and I never tire of it. I have no doubt that these guys have probably grown musically and are gonna blow us away with their new album.

I am counting down the days too. ;)

I hope they come back and really blow us away, it has been way too long since I have heard something new from them. I love their style of music, it’s just so unique and different from anything else out today.

Awesome! Thanks a lot Leighdu, I had no idea that they had a new video, though I had heard the song on the radio. I love it!

Very Welcome Jewel. What did think about those instrumentals? The video looks like the typical PATD video, but I can definitely hear a bit of maturity in their new song.

There is definitely a lot of maturity in their newest album, “Pretty Odd”. Has anybody else bought it yet? I got it the first day it was out, and I love it. It really reminds me of The Beatles.

Yeah, the new album is pretty good. Not what I expected but in a good way. They have grown a lot and yep, they do sound a bit like The Beatles.
