The Pixies are Back
The Pixies are back. That’s right, the indie band that can be credited with influencing some of the greatest bands to come out of the early 1990s (including Nirvana, Radiohead, and Weezer) and with being personal faves of legends like U2 and David Bowie, got back together in 2004 after a long break involving some serious fighting.
The Pixies are actually in the process of recording a new album, to add to their studio albums produced so far (Come On Pilgrim, Surfer Rosa, Doolittle, Bossanova ,and Trompe Le Monde). Their latest release Wave of Mutilation demonstrated that the band had lost little in its eleven year break, with the single “Broken Face” carrying Frank Black’s quirky vocals and angsty lyrics over a mixture of punk/party music instrumentals.
Whether or not the Pixies can overcome the troubles that haunted them in the past remains to be seen. Certainly, the band members are much more mature in appearance than eleven years ago (weight gain and hair loss has given them a distinctly un-indie look). The pressures that led to the implosion of the band might be behind them, though, as bassist Kim Deal has proven through other projects (The Breeders) that she is as capable a vocalist and writer as Black.

They won’t be doing anything, just that name alone is going to hold them back.
hi all. i’m from montreal quebec canada, i have been trying to find the CD of a friend of mine, his name is Frank Leger. he has a song that is about trying to change the rain. if anyone knows what i’m talking about please email me the lable or title or something. i know that he was really popular in france and in germany for a while. Thankyou
They are back? I never heard of them in the first place! And yet they are credited for influencing such large household names as Nirvana, Radiohead, and Weezer) and with being personal faves of legends like U2 and David Bowie! How is that so? Oh well. Maybe I just missed them. However, why could not they actually pick out a decent band name? The Pixies! Sounds like they were on drugs.
Well you know the saying there is a time and place. Maybe back then it was just not their time and hopefully after 15 or more years you have grown up and can get along and record great music and make people see who you really are as a band and move forward with your music. It is sad to see when good bands go bad because they simply need to grow up.
The Pixies are one of the greatest bands in the history of rock ‘n’ roll. Though, it sometimes can be dissappointing when a once great band gets back together and their new material is just not what it could be…*cough* Pearl Jam *cough, cough*
Hopefully this will be different. And, I’m confident the Pixies won’t dissappoint.
I always loved the Pixies, they are a great band, they were very very popular on the past and are kind of forgotten now, those who listened to them are already busy adults, so they are most likely going to gather a new and younger public, we are waiting for you pixies!
Although I may be expressing a minority opinion here, I don’t dislike the band’s name. “The Pixies” might, of course, bring childish images of winged Tinkerbell lookalikes to mind, but hey, it’s a nicer name than, oh, “Anthrax” or “The Butchers of Miami” (I made that last one up, but hey, for all I know there could be such a band out there.)
I love this band. In fact I love them so much that I had “Where is My Mind” as my profile song on Myspace for quite a while. This is definitely an Indie band at its finest. They did have quite an influence on many 90’s indies bands, and I can’t wait to hear their new album. I really don’t think that they will fall into that trap where they feel so pressured to be as creative as they once were that they fail (at least I hope not).

Hmm, they have been doing things for quite a while now. This band did lots of great things in the early 90’s, and the name did nothing to hold them back. I think they can soar again. In fact from what I hear they are already picking up speed again.
