OK, I’ll give in and go with the most obvious lead possible. This band is anything but……..
The influences cited by band members certainly show up in efforts such as “I Would Do For You,” especially Bob Marley, Miles Davis and other foundational artists. It is a bit hard to classify the excellent guitar work of Kyle McDonald and Miles Doughty. But true aficionados hear controlled brilliance. These two contribute vocals to the mix as well.
The group also offers strong percussion with Ryan Moran on drums and Oguer Ocon on congas, harp, vocals and other percussion. Add DeLa’s saxophone and C-Money’s trumpet and keyboard – the recipe is right for extended listening. “Above The Clouds” from Chroncitis has all the signs of reggae mixed with some “eastern” and Mexico/Central America influence. For some strange reason, the electronics and keyboards really fill the song. How did they know?
Slightly Stoopid will be on an extended tour from September 23 through November 17, beginning near home in California then moving on to the great northwest. Then the caravan moves through the upper Midwest, including a stop at the University of Illinois in Urbana. The tour also covers New York and much of the east coast, before heading for the southern states and the Southwest. Fans may want to listen for the blues-oriented “Baby I Like It.” It’s different.
