The Audition
These young purveyors of rock/pop hail from the Windy City. In the past decade or so, Chicago has been a pretty good scene for this style of music and The Audition comes from that melting pot. With a claim of reinventing pop/rock/punk, Audition has set the goal very high.
They get a good start with songs like “Don’t Be So Hard” (from Controversy Loves Company Victory Records). The group shows its expertise in high-energy rock featuring drums, “fuzz” guitar and quickly sung vocals. Beyond the great title, “Approach The Bench” is a pretty good rock song. With a courtroom theme, the emphasis must be on lyrics and story. From the same CD, “Dance Halls Turn To Ghost Towns” has another intriguing title. Some of the guitar work is just as intriguing.
The October/November tour passes through Texas and California on the way to several shows in Canada. Stops in Illinois, Michigan and Ohio are included toward the end of the calendar. The tour was set to include Boys Like Girls and All Time Low. The Audition also played Paris with Fall Out Boy and made a stop in the UK, to satisfy fans there.
The Audition is: Joe Lussa – bass; Timmy Klepek – guitar; Seth Johnson – guitar; Danny Stevens – vocals; Ryan O’Connor – drums.

This is one band I have actually heard of. I believe I saw their CD, Controversy Loves Company at a local music store that cells compact disks. I see Ohio is in there list of places to tour, if I have not missed them already, I will be checking them out when they arrive. It seems they have also played with Fall Out Boy in the past, how nice.
Based on the information that was provided I would be interested in seeing what the style of the music really is in my book and how it might relate to my music likes or dislikes. I find that when you have an open mind about a band that you are more out to find something that you would want to hear. Some bands just have to be played often before you really like them. I wonder is this might be one of those bands.
They are a nice band, but I would not put it as an indie band, but as a pop band, or sort of hardcore, it is a different style, they still have a lot to learn and become a big band, but they have potential to get there someday, hope they will make it
I am not sure exactly what genre I would put them under, but I like these guys! They kind of remind of “Panic At the Disco” a bit, but a little edgier. I guess I would label them as “Emo Pop”.
I don’t really like this band. I’ve heard of “Don’t Be So Hard on Yourself”, and couldn’t even listen to the whole thing. They seem indie to me, with a very different style from the other ones out there. I think that they need a lot of work if they want to start getting anywhere in the music business, but I’m sure with the right dedication, they’ll do just fine.
I don’t know…I didn’t think “indie” had to have a certain sound or style. Maybe I’m wrong, or dense in the head, but I thought indie was more or less referring to the way the music gets to the masses via independent labels rather than through the major record companies.
