City and Colour
Great voice and smooth acoustic guitar – makes for some excellent listening, as most City and Colour fans state after hearing this acoustic/folk artist. With CDs on Dine Alone Records, Dallas Green couldn’t have chosen a more appropriate label name, as this work is almost exclusively the effort of one St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada singer/guitarist.
The haunting sounds of “Missing” from the War Child CD – Help! A Day in the Life, can draw the listener in, almost unexpectedly. “Wasting Time” is not at all complex, nor are the lyrics deep, but the message is clear: People love to talk about the things they are going to do. Green calmly urges everyone to get with it and stop, well, stop wasting time.
This artist claims to be influenced by everything and that becomes clear with “Save Your Scissors” from the 2005/2006 Sometimes and more so with Like Knives from Green’s 2007 Live recording.
City and Colour just completed a short tour, with stops in Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Vancouver and Toronto. But this limited touring has not prevented Green’s lilting voice and soft guitar work from reaching around the world. The Web has spread the word, apparently, because City and Colour is getting requests to appear in Australia and several European countries. City and Colour was nominated for a Much Music Award (recognition that is attracting some attention in the music industry).

I think that as we continue to grow with music interest. You will find that more and more people are getting back to the acoustic sounds of yester year. I would really like to hear some of the stuff available from the City and Colour. please list links as to where and go get a demo of their music so that we can help to spread the word and get others to hear their melodic sounds.
I love the sound of the acoustic guitar. I play guitar myself, both acoustic and electric, so I love listening to new music I never heard before.
I haven’t heard of “City and Colour” and I want to thank you for posting this. I’ll have to find some more free time to actually sit down and listening all their music on their MySpace page and possibly pick up their album. Great sound!
With this band is again the fold music influence that really turns me off. However there was a nice touch of different sounds that made it tolerable, so good job for that. The haunting sounds mentioned is really all that makes this band tolerable or unique.
I know that song “Save Your Scissors”, it is a great one, and yes, acoustic singing will become more popular very soon, people are getting tired of artificial singers, so the ones who can show their real great voice to the public will get a lot of attention, so I think City and Colour will be seen a lot on the media soon.
Ive only heard one of there songs and it wasn’t that bad it was quite decent and it was a good listen. Tho after a while of hearing it on the radio for more then 8 times in a row it started to get really annoying and I started to dislike them.
Is it just me or does this guy have an absolutely perfect voice to accompany acoustics with? I mean seriously, even live his voice is melodic and sounds like he is recording in a studio. Brilliant. I have just become a fan. It’s rare to find someone that has that sweet of a voice over acoustics like that. What’s funny is that I heard a song by them on the radio and didn’t too much care for it, but after hearing the music again I have changed my mind. Well done City and Colour.
i think that the more i listen to this specific group, the more that i realize that there is more than what appears. when you listen to the music you can feel the mood instead of jut hearing it and i love taht
I have listened to City and Colour, and I did enjoy it. I love the acoustic guitar, even though I play the electric, and this band has a great sound. I have never heard them on the radio though, I have only listened to them online.
