Corey Crowder

Corey Crowder ReviewCorey Crowder is definitely a folk singer, in the traditional sense. Hailing from Greenville, South Carolina, Crowder sings with a soft, breathy voice that is part of the song, not the only part that catches the ear. With good folk music, the acoustic guitar, piano, bass… whatever instruments are long for the ride… are also part of the message. This is quite refreshing, but not surprising considering that Crowder lists Bob Dylan, Jim Croce, Johnny Cash and The Beatles among his influences.

A cast that includes bassist Logan Belcher, drummer Russ Chapman and guitarist Katlin Owen supports Crowder. The singer/songwriter apparently gets strong direction from manager Steve Taylor as well. It seems odd that Crowder is not connected with a record label (not even an Indie sticker, according to one Web site). It’s even more odd that he lists only one New Hampshire show on the schedule.

"Last Ones Standing" from the special CD is a nice, nice song. "When I’m With You" would be comfortable alongside any of the new folk/acoustic music gracing America’s stages today. The CD is called Starting All Over and the artist includes the title song on his sample list, featuring lyrics that draw the listener to further understand the message.

Personal note: I particularly like "Here’s Looking At You" from a recording called Learning To Let Go. This tune sort of reminds of one of my favourites from the 1990s – Counting Crows. More from this guy would be quite welcome.

Corey Crowder is definitely a folk singer, meaning that I will definitely not be listening to any of the music he ever releases! Folk music is just about as bad as that ridiculous rap “music.” I really can not stand that genre of music, the lyrics always sound like a little child wrote them. It is quite sad. Well good luck to Mister Crowder anyways.

He is a great singer in my opinion, I do not know a lot of his songs, but my favorite is that single called Learning to let go, it is such a beautiful song, I always listen to that, it is not so folk I see, it is a kind of modern folk, pretty nice!

I think that if you do not give it a chance you will never know what you are missing. He has a fantastic voice and although classified as a fold singer, I do not really put him in that category. The song writing ability is amazing. I have not heard a song written like “Here’s looking at you kid”. Then you have a lighter sound on the song “When I’m with you”. I would recommend this to anyone who is a real music appreciator.

He has some pretty strong influences which could make him a increadable singer if he put his mind to it and could be as big as all the other bands/singers out there because this kid could have some pretty nice talent. I say this because celebrity’s just stand there and whore them selfs out.

I had never heard of Corey Crowder until last year. For some reason I was sent a “friends request” on Myspace, so I decided to check him out. I cannot really say that I like Corey’s genre of music, but he definitely has an appealing voice and I think he could probably go very far with the people that enjoy that kind of music.

Folk music is, to me, anyway, just as viable, enjoyable, and authentic as any other, especially because it doesn’t take on pretentious, “artsy” airs. Yes, it can be inelegant, but it also makes points anyone can understand and not have to resort to having to take a college-level course on philosophy or The Shading of Irony 101 to “get” the lyrics.
