Nightmare of You

Nightmare-of-you ReviewNightmare of You sets the tone with "I Was Never A Normal Boy" tune from its Bang CD (2007 The Bevonshire). The lyrics of this song are interesting, though they don’t quite stretch to the vision that the title promises. Close. (This veteran listener would encourage them to keep up the good work.) The title tune, "Bang" shows some of the musicianship the lies deep within these individuals. David Bowie is in there somewhere! Good tune. I would suggest that first-time listeners experience Thumbelina from Nightmare Of You(2005, The Bevonshire).

Hailing from the Big Apple, Nightmare Of You’s current work includes Bethlehem, Pennsylvania before heading over the pond to London and Birmingham. The band, composed of Brandon Reilly, Joseph McCaffrey, Samuel Siegler and Ryan Heil, list such greats as The Beatles, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Velvet Underground, The Jam, Squeeze and others as major influences. With such major talents as Bowie and Velvet Underground in their heads, Nightmare Of You is at least building a foundation for some good future work.

What are the major components for Nightmare Of You? Guitars, of course, and an experienced drummer. But then, most rock bands have that. Wordplay and lyrical content will be the deciding factor. Most Nightmare Of You fans are already convinced that the group is making its mark as lyrical artists.

hehe, the band has got a nice name, a bit scary, but sounds pretty nice. :)
And I agree, the guitars are very present on their songs, that one called ‘I was never a normal boy’, has a great guitar playing! Sounds like a soft band but with great instruments and vocals.

I like the guitars a lot, but wow, that drummer is awesome. I would be interested in hearing more songs like ” Normal Boy”. The lyrics are anything but normal, but hey, that’s what I like in a band. A little of originality have never hurt anyone. I think in times these guys can really get it together and make something great of themselves. Not to say that they aren’t already pretty talented, but in my opinion, they are a work in progress that can only get better.

I’m more into the Beatles myself, but this sounds intriguing! I definitely like songwriters/singers who are into word play and catchy lyrics.

This is my favorite Indie Band to date! I absolutely love “My Name is Trouble” and “The Days Go By Oh So Slow”. They’ve really got a great beat that you can either relax or dance to. The vocals are just so crisp and clear and full of meaning, and I can definitely sense some David Bowie in their tunes! As far as I’m concerned, Nightmare of You will make it big someday. Even if they don’t, I’ll always be a fan.

Nightmare of You is not the normal style/type of music I tend to enjoy. Their Myspace site is colorful and offers many ways to get a piece of the band: appeal, CDs, etc. The vocals are pleasant and the music as a whole is not bad, but they are not something I would find myself wanting to listen to as I drive down the street.

My best friend was telling me about this one, so I might check it out. Which songs would you regular fans recommend to a first time listener? I love bands that have great lyrics, and from what I have been hearing, this band is one that I want to check out.

  9. Fardreamer Says:

I do suppose that Nightmare of You might not be for every listener out there, as AusQtie points out so well. Some bands are an acquired taste, and listeners tend to have very variable musical “wants and needs,” right?

Still, this is a very good lyrics-oriented group, and I gladly would listen to them on occasion.

These guys have got a great sound and when they play you can tell that a lot of work has gone into getting the sound they have created, I have lucky enough to hear the guys play and they play a mean sound and thye have awesome lyrics, they are a must go see group

I finally gave them a listen and I liked them. They reminded me just a tiny bit of the Beatles, did anybody else get that from the band?

I listened to “I Was Never a Normal Boy” and I really liked the music. The singer has such a smooth and melodic voice, and the song was instantly stuck in my head.

I like their name. it’s powerful and a little on the dark side. When I listened to their music I wasn’t at all disappointed with their sound. In my opinion with their name they could have been a little ‘darker sounding’ and still been great.
