Brighten
This trio from the lovely town of Chico, California is variously billed as rock and "crunk" but overall many listeners would say the group’s name fits well with such tunes as "Love Me Honestly" (from the band’s demo disc). Music does not have to be complex, loud or hammering to be good and Brighten proves this with a couple of tunes. "Love Me Honestly" may remind the older listener of some early British pop groups. This is a good thing.
The three members of this Golden State band get a bit heavier (and darker) with "Treasure Island" (King vs. Queen 2007). This tune starts with some nice vocal work and soon sets into more energetic rhythms. "We Chose The King" (King vs. Queen 2007) has an interesting flavor. Lyrics tie this pop/rock ballad together. The vocals are very solid. Some of the influences are Goo Goo Dols, Feist, Third Eye Blind, Radiohead and Colbie Caillat.
Brighten’s trio of musicians is: Justin Richards – guitar and lead vocals; Alex Draper – bass and vocals; Jimmy Richards – drums/percussion. They take their show to several western United Stations locations, including Oklahoma, Colorado, Arizona and southern California. A couple of these gigs are the early-evening, acoustic sort that Brighten fans should enjoy.

I really liked this band. Maybe the harder edge says why this band will have a following with people who enjoy the harder style music of today. Of course all bands have their ballads, but these ones will surprise you a bit as they did me. Great band will be listening to them when I can.
These guys are another great band. They definately have a great future ahead of them.
Hell, they could be on tour in no time. I’d pay to see them!~
“We Chose The King” would probably be my personal favorite from what I have heard do far. I really don’t hear a “harder” edge to these guys though, Attagirl. They are pretty good, decent enough, but nothing I would I go writing home about. They have that poppy/acoustic sound that I really enjoy, but I just wish the lead singer didn’t sound so typical.
I haven’t heard their songs yet, but based on what these other guys are saying, they may be good. They may look lame, but they got the talent. I can say that they may be a force to be deal with on the near future of the music industry.
When I first went to their Myspace page, the first song that popped up was “Love me Honestly”. To be honest, I just about changed the song because I didn’t like the way it started. After the singer started though, it got a bit better. Still not my favorite, however.
“Treasure Island” was one song that I really liked. “We Chose the King” was interesting too. I don’t really see much of a “harder” edge here either, they seem more poppy to me. Still decent though.
