Lorene Drive ReviewVictorville, California, has been variously described as a rock band and a post-hardcore band. Whatever the niche the listeners and critics try to put them in, this west coast crew has been around since 2002 and currently puts their musical efforts on Lobster Records.

Members include Daniel Murillo – vocals; Stephen Fisher – guitar; Kevin Roddy- guitar; Matthew Kearns – bass; and Kris Comeaux – drums. This lineup has participated in several of the Warped Tours, Taste of Chaos and Bamboozle, in addition to touring with a number of bands, including I Am Ocean, My American Heart, Doomriders and Hidden in Plain View.

Listing The Beatles, Deftones and Journey among their influences, the members of Lorene Drive released the full-length Romantic Wealth on Lobster Records in August 2005.

A 2008 tour that beings in February will take the group from Provo, Utah and Salt Lake City to Seattle, Portland and then south for several dates in California. These Golden State dates include Just Surrender, Farewell and National Product on stage. This same combination of groups will cross the country to Houston, Texas then move on to Florida for concerts in Tallahassee, Orlando and Tampa. New England and the Midwest are also on the card, with Lorene Drive playing 2 Cents Plain in downtown St. Louis in March. This last venue is rather small, so those who wish to catch Lorene Drive on the banks of the Mississippi should get there early.

Lorene Drive rocks it. I love me some good rock bands and it just seems to get harder and harder to find the gems these days. These guys are raw and hard hitting with some delicious guitar licks. And their lyrics, what can I say? Sometimes I get tired of hearing so many bands whine over the mic. Lorene Drive is a refreshing change with lyrics such as ” I don’t give a damn, no I don’t give a fuck…I’m always hungry and I’m starving for more..”

Hmm, I’m a bit divided on this band. The songs are definitely rocking, especially Showing Bones, but they totally don’t remind me of the bands that they named as their influences. The lead vocalist’s voice can be a bit grating at times, especially when he tries to reach those high notes, but the lyrics themselves are well done. I’m tired of those depressing songs too!

As far as influenese, I did hear a little bit of a Journey influence in their vocals, although they have some big shoes to fill when being influenced by the likes of Steve Perry. I can almost always hear a Beatles influence when bands mention them as an influence, but I just don’t hear it with these guys.

Rock and hard roll is what I got from Lorene Drive. I love the way it feels as though they are putting everything they feel into their songs as rough as possible. The band name suites the raw rough sound for me due to some of my own Lorene experiences.
