The Finals

OK, this ain’t The Finals, a rap effort that isn’t The Finals BAND!
“Extended Autumn” (Plan Your Getaway - 2006 Immortal Records) is something like a lot of young groups of the late 1990s and the first years of the new century. But the duelling guitars and the keyboard treatment help set this sound apart, at least a bit.
From the same collection comes “Right Here Not Now,” a boy-rock tune if there ever was one. It’s quality music, but doesn’t contain the unusual treatment that “Extended Autumn” gets. But this doesn’t stop some listeners, even media reviewers, from giving this group the thumbs up.
All Ages Zine said Plan Your Getaway is “an album chalked full of diverse songs.” I hope they mean “chock” full. Anyway, the All Ages writer agrees that this is a band with a ton of promise. “Something To You” is a love ballad of sorts. It’s good listening, but musically it’s probably not the best effort of this Jersey/New York area band. That might be “Plague Escapade.”
The Web site www.stereokiller.com listed the group as ” ranging in age from 21-25 and collectively influenced by a diverse array of artists such as The Beatles, Metallica, Alkaline Trio, Death Cab for Cutie, The Clash, Hot Rod Circuit, Jimmy Eat World, The Postal Service, New Order and The Cars.”
But where are they now? Well, it seems that, in 2008, most of The Finals are now Hungry Tigers. Check that out.
