5 More Days

For those about to scream, they salute you!

I know, it’s a worn-out phrase, but 5 More Days is straightforward about being a screamo band. The new song featured on the band’s MySpace site is “It Can’t Get Darker.” There are days when I would have to agree.

However, there is some nice vocal work laced in here, though not enough for my taste. This is a pretty tight band, and some of the “bigger” names of the genre have apparently realized this. 5 More Days has played with some of the better-known acts.

According to the limited information on the Web site, “The Band has been playing now for 3 years. Has had the honor to play with national bands such as Alesana, A Day To Remember, The Sleeping, A Thorn For Every Heart, Mayday Parade, and many more.” Not bad, not bad.

The group is from deep in southern California, sort of in the San Diego/Tijuana area. Good place to live and work, if you can get it done. Check out some of the videos of these guys, if you don’t believe they are a balls-to-the-wall act. I’m not sure how far they’ll go, but the girls are screaming. That’s always a good thing.

Is there really a need for more bands with this kind of music? I really think this music genre is already swamped with really great bands( Linkin Park?) and not so talented bands. They would really need a big breaktrough songwise to be able to compete among the more popular bands in this genre is what I think. Anyways, lots of luck to them.

There is nothing at all new about this bands style. It is just the same regurgitated sound that grows popular for one second, only to fade into forgetting as soon as you hear it. They seem to have a small following;however I don’t see it getting bigger than their current fan base. There are better styles of music to listen that are more worthwhile then loud screaming over guitars, and I will stick with those.

If you are going to be a scream-o band, then you are gonna have to make it more interesting and unique than all the other millions of bands like this out there. I agree with the other two posters. This band, like many I have recently heard, are a dime a dozen. They will get a following yes, but unless they change up their originality a bit, they are going to be yesterday’s news very fast.

Screamo? The radical part of emo? I have never enjoyed emo music, and the hardcore part, screamo, even less. It’s some sort of mix between punk, hardcore and post-punk, but without keeping the courage and social themes of these genres. That’s why I consider screamo to be an inferior genre. Nonetheless, the band seems legit, I mean, they do know how to play. They just don’t play the right thing.

I thought screamo meant half singing half screaming but more on the screaming. Clearly they got the screaming part. They’re screaming and the girls are screaming. What more do you need? Still, music is all about expression not just about selling records. At least I think they’re not trying to sell records. They don’t sound like it anyway. :p

I really hate screamo songs. I don’t know why would anyone love this kind of music. I listened to some emo songs but only just for a second. There are lot of bands who sing this kind of music, especially teenagers who are very emo. It’s very annoying. anyway, if this kind of music makes them feel good then good luck on them. We have a freedom of choice anyway.

This kind of music gets popular with very limited section of listeners.I am never able to appreciate this stuff. But their ardent emo fans also need music of their liking and choice, so I prefer staying out of it.It is matter of personal choice.
