well, i think that this record is good for amateur bands and artists. it is good that Corey Taylor decided to create a new record label for many aspiring bands. and i think that all labels started to take amateur bands before having success on getting popular bands. and everyone will start at the bottom before reaching their success. just like in record labels.

by lalajean on November 5th, 2007 2:51 pm
This is no surprise to me and should not be a surprise to anyone else for that fact. More and more people or bands are starting independent labels thus giving them the opportunity to be more open and express more in their music without the threat of label. So I am glad to see that people are not afraid to do what they have to in order to make their dreams a reality.
- yes i agree with you lalajean. i think that artists have also the right to be popular even without the support of the labels. many artists will become successful if only they will believe in their dreams.

Well, i think that promoting is really a big help for many artists. but i agree with you Leighdu that sometimes commercialization kills music. and i think that there are times when it is not good for the bands and artists.

Commercialization kills music. I can't stand listening to commercial radio anymore because you are hearing what the corporations want you to hear, and songs that are just completely horrible and forced into your ears with redundant air play over and over.

Kudos to you for mentioning that the corporations have made a mess of the music industry. I think that with commercialization of music it takes away from what they are really want to write about in order to appease the record companies mind and what people will want to see in videos.

This allows for people to be themselves, write about what is really happening in the world and trying to help make a difference today.

It is the opposite of the old saying, “If you can’t join them beat them.” That is what these independent labels are trying to do, which I think is great. We would miss out on some wonderful music if all the good bands sat around waiting for that one popular label to sign them; “Go out, Start your own!” I’m also a fan of Slipknot.

I heartily agree with lalajean; the big corporations have made a big mess of things as far as promoting, nurturing, and creating true talent, and in my view, limit audiences to what the bean counters want people to believe is "popular." Maybe starting new labels will give artists a better chance to thrive creatively without having to give in to the major record labels...even though this isn't exactly a new idea.

I am all for bringing unity to the local music scene. So many artists have to stifle their creativity when signed onto a major label. Others don't even get the chance to have their music heard. I hope this works out and doesn't turn out to be a " take the money and run" type of thing.
