Gregory Douglass
If it’s piano and clarity of vocals you’re after, Gregory Douglass has something for you with his just-released collection Battler and a nice sample in “Broken Through.”
Move on to another selection from the CD, “Devotion,” and the listener should still be satisfied.
In fact, fans of the Andy Davis piano-based work from about a year ago might find Douglass a welcome addition to their easy-listening collection (though this musician from Vermont has a voice that is a bit more powerful than the youthful Davis). “Sadly” sparkles with some vocal work by guest singer Anais Mitchell. This is a Robert-Flack style ballad, with nice guitar work that takes the listener out of the song.
While Douglass may not be the most recognizable name among the “evocative” music crowd, he has been in some great company. He was one of the featured artists on “The Animal Album benefit compilation in 2009, featuring Neko Case, Emmylou Harris, Cyndi Lauper & more” according to information from his Web site. He is far from a beginner, with seven full-length collections to his credit.
Douglass will devote several days in early April to the release tour for Battler, beginning in San Diego and moving on to Los Angeles, Ventura and San Francisco before moving on to Springfield and Fayette in Missouri. Listen for Gregory Douglass in a neighborhood near you.
