I had previously heard of Joan and am very happy that you mentioned that you mentioned ‘The Ride, which is one of my favorite songs by a artist who truly thinks about the songs she is putting forth, and means each word said within the lyrics. The fact that she is so versatile (hence her ability to be able to handle nearly all parts of the song, all of the instrument playing, songwriting, truly rare to find in ANY artist nowadays) truly was the final nail in the coffin for me, Joan is one of my favorite musicians, and one of my most treasured finds in music, I’m so glad i happened to hear her when i was listening to internet radio!

I saw joan at a concert in glasgow, randomly, and with friends in 07, had never heard her before, but was transfixed by her voice and the beauty and depth of the songs, it’s rare to hear something so soft, sensual and emotive in music but which also has a raw edge! Great music, gorgeous vocals and warmth in the tunes…tip top!!

It’s not what I expected at all. But I have to say that I was happily surprised when I listened to her.

I’m with Fardreamer in reference to the credit list. That blew me away, and gave me a whole new level of respect for her. I think it made me like her even more too.

I could see this ending up on my ipod, and listening to it before I go to sleep at night.

Interesting is all I can say. The woodwinds in the music is outstanding, and can be appreciated by anyone who really is a musician or into all styles of music. Very interested in knowing more about this artist and to see her in concert. Although not my favorite it would be nice to see something new and refreshing which is what is invoked here.

I’m really interested in what a live show is like. I frequent many concerts, but none where the music would be so relaxed, yet thought-provoking.

I agree with Fardreamer. I had never heard of Joan As Police Woman either, but I really did enjoy the “laid back” style as mentioned.

I actually think “To Be Loved” is a very listen-worthy song. I’d never heard of Joan As Police Woman until I came across THIS review, and after excising any memories of Angie Dickinson’s Sgt. Pepper character, I decided to mosey over to Joan’s MySpace page and check out the songs.

I’m glad that I did, because I’m very impressed, especially when I saw “Joan Wasser – songwriter, singer, guitarist, pianist, violinist” on the band credit list.

Now, if you like scream-o or angry-sounding rock, Joan As Police Woman is NOT for you. Her style is more laid back, even thought-provoking or reflective. I liked it quite a bit because of this….
