At first glance, Johnny Parente is a “blast from the past” in that his graphics present him as a 1950s rock-and-roller who gets the cute girls in the short skirts. His vocals on “I’ll Be Here Tomorrow” do sound a bit like some of the sock-hop ballads from the early years. Parente has soulful voice that fits this style and the background vocals add to the atmosphere.
Some who have listened believe this “young, independent artist” has a sound that “is ready to compete with the biggest names in the industry.” While that remains to be seen, he does bring a certain strength to the pop/rock field from his home base in Ontario. First guess would be that he does attract the young ladies.
Another tune offered for new listeners is “The Gift of Life.” Parente shows a bit of falsetto/upper range warbling on this song. While not the strongest lyrical effort, the music is powerful enough to get some attention. “Sway My Way” has some of the same strengths but is also a bit weak lyrically. With time and experience in songwriting, Parente should develop a significant following. He’s playing in and around the Toronto/Hamilton area at present.
