Kris Delmhorst
“Galuppi Baldassare” might be a good place to start for someone who hasn’t had the pleasure of listening to this east coast singer. The tune is upbeat and carries some flavor of country, jazz and folk. Kris Delmhorst considers herself an Indie/folk artist as well as “other.” This is appropriate, since good alternative music should be difficult to categorize.
“Light of the Light” provides a different feel but it is equally hard to put this tune into a snug slot. Perhaps that’s why Signature Sounds (an Indie label) found it wise to put her on CD. “Hummingbird” starts out at an inviting, soft level, quite a different atmosphere in comparison to the ending of “Light of the Light.” This listener is partial to “Blue Adeline.” All of Delmhorst’s tunes show strength in songwriting and in vocal control. It remains to be seen if she will continue to grow as a lyricist.
She is currently making the rounds in the northeast (Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine) but later in the year will stretch things out to the other coast. California music fans may want to look for her in Santa Ynez and Berkeley. Delmhorst will also make a stop in the Midwest, where she will appear on public radio in Macomb, Illinois (home of Western Illinois University).
