Midgar

MidgarThis group from the U.K. kicks in for the listener with some crisp, in-your-face drumming by Oli Wiseman and then proceeds with high-energy tunes such as “A Thousand Eyes.” In many of their tunes, there is a brief respite with the ballad portion, but the mix is generally aimed toward rocking, hard. Interesting guitar sounds and great drumming make this happen.
Giving the band its potency are Andy Wilson-Taylor: lead vocals and guitar; Rob Fisher: vocals and guitar; Erlin McAlpine: vocals and bass; Mike Wiles: guitar: Oli Wiseman: drums. “Vincent’s Masquerade has to rank among the best tunes on this collection, during which Wilson-Taylor shows his considerable talents. The song has nice backup vocals as well, along with that amazing drumming.
Midgar currently focuses on jobs somewhat close to their U.K. home, with gigs at The Shed in Leicester, as well as the Beach Break Live Festival in June. Listeners at these venues will enjoy what the band terms a mix of aggressiveness and beauty. That’s about as well as it can be stated. For those who want an interesting introduction to Midgar, check out “Flying a Kite in New Orleans.” You will probably see them soon because the group has set a goal of touring, touring and touring in 2009.
