Never Heard Of It
While this Los Angeles group has no shows on its Web site at the time of this writing, rest assured the Never Heard Of It is not just sitting still in the fast-paced indie music world. Their itinerary in 2006 and early 2007 took them from their home ground in southern California (including Hollywood and Anaheim) to a tour in Japan with Bleed The Dreem, Army Of Freshmen and Crowned King. In fact, this group has been covering the musical ground for several years, crossing the United States several times.
A mainstay on the Warped Tour and a success in their CD sales without strong label backing, Never Heard Of It has grown into an experienced band. DJ Dell’Osa provides solid vocals as the front man for Never Heard Of It, supported by Jeff Anenberg on lead guitar. The current lineup, according to the band’s Web site, also includes Greg Lynch (rhythm guitar), Elmo Jamz (drums) and Rick Avery (bass). Other members listed include richE Zahniser (keys).
Never Heard Of It features some electro/techno touches on “Finger On The Trigger,” along with solid chording on guitar and straightforward drumming. “Something Out There catches the listener with an interesting beginning that softens to acoustic guitar, then returns to a nice rock feel. Jamz stretches out a bit on the drums with this tune, while the melody line is, quite literally, neat.
“Flowers,” from the 2006 self-titled recording, features some interesting rhythm changes, and treads some new ground with story and lyrics. There is a nice bass line during the “solo” section. Fans can expect more from this veteran group.

the bass line in ‘flowers’ is really awesome, but then, this music is also amazing. of all of their songs i listenend to, flowers was the one that more appealed to me
Nice review, guys! Although “a nice rock feel” sometimes is a turn-off for this rather more gentle-acoustic music lover, I do agree that the switch in timbre and tempo from acoustic to more edgy rock does work in “Finger on the Trigger.” Anenberg acquits himself well as a lead guitar player, and I do like the band’s overall sound. Kudos!
These guys are great. They are a great mash between Techno and Rock. A really great mix.
I could listen to them all night!~ But, I won’t.
The mix of backup and lead vocals is great. They have a great writer too. And a great guitarist, for that matter.
Everything about them is great.
I think that is is interesting to see more bands bringing the techno or 80’s sound back out in the these years. I think that you have to be really strong as a band to pull this off and keep people interested. I cannot wait for more from these guys.
Techno and Rock? An interesting blend of styles, if I do say so myself.
As a music listener, I’m always fascinated by any musicians who can combine two different styles and make them mesh together. Maybe that’s why, in American music, we have so much variety. I mean, even in genres most of us probably don’t listen to, such as classical or jazz, there’s that synergy or symbiotic relationship between styles. A good example of this is Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue…it has elements of jazz and classical.
Even The Beatles, a rock band by any standard, knew how to mesh styles that were polar opposites.
Never heard of THIS BAND, but I am glad I discovered them. The mix of techno and alterna-rock doesn’t get much better than this. I agree with Attagirl as well. I love how that “80’s” is making a comeback in a good way.
Funny how in music, everything that is old is somehow made new again with revivals of style. It seems to come in waves, too, as anyone familiar with the “nostalgia” craze over the Fifties in the 1970s and the Sixties in the ’80s no doubt remembers. Now it’s the Eighties that are “back.” (Now I want to dig up my 1983 albums again!)
It’s not often that a band comes out that can successfully mix techno and rock together. Finger on the Trigger just makes me squeal. There aren’t any whiny vocals here, and the beat just makes you want to dance. Well, I’m definitely putting their page on my Favorite’s List. I’ll totally have to look for any future cds by these guys!
The name made me giggle for some reason. It’s a name that I’m not going to forget anytime soon. But it’s more than just the name. It’s the band, and the sound they have. I like techno, and I like how they incorporated it in their music to make a sound that they can use.
