Open Air Stereo
With their own version of rock and roll from Orange County, California, Open Air Stereo has caught the attention of enough fans (and industry individuals) to give this west coast group incentive to continue the creative process. According to information from the band’s Web site, they have made several new songs available for sampling in 2007. These efforts form the foundation for Open Air Stereo’s debut album, which follows an initial EP effort.
“Heaven” is a song that begins with breathless “talking” vocals at first and then, as a pleasant surprise, incorporates vocals later that are actually breathing gone melodic. This tune shows a strong effort/focus on lyrical content. Nick Gross provides some solid drumming here. Tunes available for listeners to sample include “Your Way Is My Way” (interesting tune – is there some British guitar feel in there, in addition to something very fresh?)
The other members of the group are: Chase Johnson – vocals/percussion; Kelan Hurley – lead guitar; Braeden Hurley – bass. However, the roots of the group reach back to about 2001 and a cover band called Stulpigeon. The band has been announcing that their bassist was recently included in a Bass Player magazine article. This is good stuff for a new band, since that publication is well respected in the music field. I’d guess we’ll be hearing more of Open Air Stereo.

Can you give me the link to the bands site? I want to hear their music; it seems that they are only new. I like to hear them sing and then I could say if they are really that good.
So this band likes to make songs about rock. I wonder how they sing the song “Your way is my way”, are they singing it just like the beetles.
I don’t like the “breathing type vocals” at the beginning of “Heaven”, but the guitar riffs and drumming more than make up for it. And yes, it does flow into a smooth melodic track as it progresses, but the lead guitar is what I enjoyed the most about the song. These guys seem good enough to make some lasting impressions. I’d definitely keep an eye out for their future work.
I neither liked the “breathing type vocals” or the guitar riffs, to be honest. Maybe I wasn’t in a receptive mood, or maybe I just was turned off by the beginning of “Heaven” and therefore couldn’t find it as appealing as Leighdu did.
I do think the group has a good future ahead, and I especially thought this review was thought-provoking and nicely done.
Are you sick and tired of having your latest material refused or negated by stuffy record labels?
Do you feel like your creativity is waining with each boring working day?
Then we can do something about it!
Welcome to Indie Aid. A global community website, run by independant artists, who offer a global audience to those artisits who find it difficult to get exposure for their work.
A random artist is chosen from the submission panel and for an entire week, the site becomes that artist’s ’shrine’. Where others can learn about the members, listen to their music and browse any artwork that may be available. At the end of the week, visitors can buy the artist’s work via cd or mp3 from their own dedicated on-line shop at Indie Aid.
We’re really trying to push back the rules of engagement with these arsey record labels who refuse to listen to original talent. So, if you’ve got a story to tell, no matter what genre you may represent (or indeed…if you have no genre!), we want to know about you!

Give your music an audience.
I did some research and found out that the band was featured on Laguna Beach which was aired on August 2006. Maybe this has helped them to gain more recognition in the music industry. Visited their site and found out that they have a new version of the song “Your way is my way”. You will need a copy of Flash program to view their site. The site’s URL is http://www.openairstereo.com
This band is only anything because they were on Laguna Beach….
Before listening to the band, I didn’t care that they were on Laguna Beach. I don’t think it matters, what difference does it make if the band still makes good music?
The song “Heaven” is interesting. Didn’t care much for the beginning, like others, but I liked the chorus and the rest of the song after that.
“Your Way is My Way” is nicely done, I really enjoyed that one the most. Great song!
With a mix of drums and guitars that are quite the show of talent, I think they will be able to go further than others in this area. Orange County is really popping out bands that have some clout with fans. Open Air Stereo is not only a unique band that has had exposure but they have a name that is a name which can be remembered. It would not take too much to win over the crowd in any area of the country.
Yes, true, they were on Laguna Beach, but the statement “the band is only anything because of Laguna Beach” is not true. Just listening to them I can tell they have talent whether their music appeared on a t.v. show or not. I’m sure it helped them get their name out there, but they would still be a talented band regardless.
Very true, leighdu. I think that no matter where a band appears (television, movies, etc.), they had to have some type of talent to get there in the first place. Promotion never hurts, there’s no reason they should turn down something like Laguna Beach. It will get their name out.
I don’t understand why someone would “pooh-pooh” a band for being on Laguna Beach and say that they are “only anything because of Laguna Beach.” Frankly, that’s selling the band short and smacks to me of “sour grapes.”
Sometimes it happens Fardreamer, because you will hear a hit song on a show and then the band pretty much disappears into the “One Hit Wonder” status. I don’t think that will be the case with these guys though.
i must honestly say that Open Air Stereo is a very talented rock band. what sets them apart from different groups is the fact, they aren’t afraid to take risk when it comes to writing music. it shows how versatile and original they are. for their age, without a doubt.. i think they’ll make it huge. great work guys!
