Saving Verona

Make no mistake about it, this Denver-based group is, was, or soon will be, on tour! In fact, they are playing in Boulder and Littleton in the home state of Colorado in May.

They start their Web samples with “Best of What I Do (In Response To Nothing 2003), an energetic tune that relies on quick drums and some growling/picked bass to make things happen. Nice middle-of-the-song break, with a treble sound to the bass for icing on the break cake.

“Pictures Have Faded” from the same CD, has a choppy rhythm, which helps make it an interesting song. I’m not sure what the vocals are supposed to tell us about the singer’s talent. It’s slightly off key. Perhaps that makes it cool or cute. You tell me.

“I’m sorry you were wrong” from 2005, probably won’t jump out at the new listener. It should satisfy the Saving Verona fan, however. This listener likes the experimental feel of some tunes. “Cancer Dancer” (fresh-mix Chinatown 2007) is an involving song. The listener has to stay awake for the changes, stops and the discomfort the band intends to put on the disc.

The band is composed of Bryce Hoops (vocals, guitar), Randy Troup (bass, vocals) and Paul Harris (drums).

Eh, I don’t like them too much. Their vocals tend to get on my nerves with their attempt to sound like every other high-school-friendly boy band. I have an indie band at my college that often tries to impersonate ’said bands, and though they have a small following, I just don’t like them. Unique voices and unique sounds are the ones that grab attention for me, and these guys just don’t cut it.

Never being a fan of saving verona, which this band resembles to me does not help their case in my book. I think that men need to have manly voices and if they are going to sing falsetto then they have to be much better than this band is. I am sure there are people that will like the vocal sound, so this is not an attack on them, simply an opinion. I think there is just not enough sound catching music here for me.

I bet the above person did not even realize this was the band they were talking about. How funny.

I don’t really see anything too cute about the vocals being off key, but I do think their instrumentals are a little different in a way. I hate to be the third one to say that I don’t care too much for this band, but they are just way too typical for my taste. The acoustics are ok at times, but other than that….eh….

Never paid much attention to the vocals being off key but after reading your notes and listening to them again. I find it interesting that I never noticed this. Must mean I am losing my touch or hearing for that fact. Or maybe there was just too many other things going on to really pay attention.

Maybe I’m just getting old, but I like it when vocals are on key first of all. It’s already been mentioned, but I agree that they’re just another cookie-cutter boy band. They might be around for a year or two, but then they’ll fade away. They’ll fade away unless they can find a way to make their music stand out more.

Some people might like this band, I don’t. That’s just my personal opinion though.

I think his music is too cheeky and I really think that he is good for girls and I would love to take my girl friend to some of his live performance. Hope he also sings some hard or strong tracks.

Everyone should definitely go check out our songs that are more up-to-date.

Not sure what this “Review” is reviewing exactly? But the songs that were mentioned in the review were wrote when we were in 9th grade (that makes them 7 years old). lol.

So of coarse it sounds a little “young”.

give us a fresh chance, listen to songs we wrote THIS YEAR. you’ll like.

    cheers,
    Bryce/Saving Verona
