The Forecast

The music of this Illinois group has the distinct flavor of several other area bands. The sound of “May You One Day Carry Me Home” (In The Shadow of Two Gunmen) reminds this listener of such central Illinois music makers as Junior Varsity (now defunct) and some of the Carolina youth groups.
“One Hundred Percent” from the same CD seems a bit darker and is constructed with a bit less energy. But the musicianship is definitely there, as Dustin Addis (vocals/guitar), Shannon Burns (bass/vocals), Matt Webb (guitar/vocals) and Tony Peck (drums) show that boys from the corn country can indeed make good music. After all, The Forecast and others do follow in the footsteps of Illinois legends REO Speedwagon. Remember them?
The Forecast lists a variety of influences, ranging from Johnny Cash and Black Oak Arkansas to hard liquor and beer. It is interesting that this group finds a bit of foundation in Black Oak Arkansas, a group that opened a series of shows for REO Speedwagon nearly 40 years ago. Check out “Late Night Conversations.” That’s a fine tune, now, I’m telling you!
Look for The Forecast in Iowa City, Oklahoma City, a couple of Texas locations and in New Mexico, beginning March 28. The group will also hit the west coast for some shows and then circle back to Nebraska.

Hmm, I’ve decided that I like these guys. They remind me surprisingly, of Jimmy Eat World, but that’s a good thing. I really enjoyed And We All Return to Our Roots and I LOVE how they made the female vocals into the main chorus of most songs while Addis does the actual vocals. It makes for a very sweet sound.
I love Shannon Burn’s background vocals! They blend in perfectly with the lead vocalist. I especially like her on “Late Night Conversation”, and that’s probably my favorite song. I can foresee this tune getting some major play in my mp3 player.
Honestly, this is my first time to hear the name of the band and it’s also my first time to hear one of their music titled 100%. Well the song is good for me. And I’m looking forward to hear some more from them.
