These Green Eyes

This, dear friends, is something slightly different. It is advertised as “emo” of course, though it could also fit today’s “alternative” and rock/pop categories. But let us step outside of categories for now to consider These Green Eyes, a band from Connecticut that offers, in 2008, Relapse to Recovery and such tunes as “Words” and “Sucker Punch.”

The first of those tunes seems to speak from a very personal point of view, but there is just enough universal interest in the young-person angst to capture a few listeners. The music is good rock, with energy enough to carry the style.

“Counter Punch” has a dark feel in the beginning, as well as an interesting way of presenting the drums and overall rhythm. While These Green Eyes sounds much like some other 21st century young rock bands, “Counter Punch” serves to separate them, especially the hurried lyrical content. Good stuff! Nice bass work!

Search among the list of influences for this group and you’ll find the standard Coheed & Cambria, Death Cab For Cutie and Jimmy Eat World. But there are a few gems there too, such as U2, Dave Brubeck and Wes Montgomery. But then there’s “Self Inflicted” from House of Glass 2005 Martyr Records. Try it and see.

Hmm, for being called an Emo band, these guys aren’t too bad. Paramedic is a pretty interesting song that somewhat reminds me of System of a Down. Mildly, the vocals remind me of that, but maybe that’s just me. Either ways, they don’t tend to be my type of band, but I can see people enjoying their music for good reason.

With a variety of interesting songs and a style that takes you somewhere. I would really have to say that this is not the band for me. I am not sure how you would really classify them but alternative would be where I would put them. I did not even know that Emo had its own category. I have to agree with the earlier post that is has a System of a Down type vibe, but that is because of the vocals. Which to me when take away the uniqueness of the music.

I don’t like them…at ALL. Again, and not to sound like a broken record, but there are just too many bands like These Green Eyes out there these days, and if they aren’t good enough to make a stand out impression from the others, then they just become very forgettable. I am sure this band may have a decent little following among a younger teenish crowd though.

I don’t know why other people don’t like this band because I think their songs are really good; I would categorize them under alternative. I would prefer listening to their songs rather than listening to trash metal and other heavy metal bands. I’m starting to like one of their new songs called Sucker punch.

I guess it just all depends on taste Cireeyes. I wish I could have been one of the ones that said that they were great since the previous two posters didn’t really dig them, but sadly I can’t. It is great though to have two different side. I am sure there are lots and lots that do enjoy their music.

I think that sometimes people just do not like something about the sound of the band. Not that they are not going to be good to others. Each person has their different tastes in music and styles and other factors. I am glad to see that someone really enjoys them and know there are others that will hear and like them as well.

They’re not a horrible band. But in all honesty I’m not going to be jumping up and down to hear their music either. I guess if it was one of those days when I really didn’t know what I wanted to listen to, I’d listen to them just to kill some time. But I’d probably listen to something else.

I wish I could say why I don’t really like them though. It’s just something I can’t explain. Maybe I think they’re trying to hard to be someone they aren’t. I can’t explain who I think they’re trying to be, but that’s the impression I get when I listen to them.

    Just my two cents.

These songs are to be heard only when you are studying. I cannot dedicate my full mind to it. Its only for people in Connecticut who are always in research or studies. This album should be subsidized there :P

Oh god…this band is so generic it almost made my head explode. Seriously, if you played me all of their songs a hundred times I still wouldn’t be able to tell any of them apart. How can people really like this type of music? That’s ten minutes of my life that I’ll never get back.

kenada, i honestly think you dont know what your talking about, this is one of the most original bands ive ever heard, and you obviously havnt hard their first LP if your making assumptions like that. how can you not like this music? and honestly, i dont know where these comparisons to system of a down came from, different genre, different look, different topics…. ? everyone on this board that thinks like that needs to seriously take a little closer look at the band

I live in Connecticut… about half an hour away from the band’s hometown, New Haven. I’ve seen These Green Eyes perform, and they were absolutely amazing times. Everyone was singing along with Colin Cunningham, having a great time. They recently had a big show in Connecticut, were on a local radio station, in an issue of AP magazine, and had a music video on TV. This band is awesome, and becoming very successful. You don’t think so? Go to one of the shows, and it will change your mind.

Great music! Emo/Herdcore guitar w/ a punk rock beat.

The guys of These Green Eyes and i have developed a pretty close friendship. To be quite honest when i first listened to them (songs from the first EP like Why Hawaii, crimson, and self inflicted) i wasnt a huge fan… I mean I thought they were good, but not great. But I continued listening to them and saw them play in CT and I fell in love with the band. There music has a meaning behind every word. The album Relapse to Recovery was based upon Suicide. A friend of the band’s took his life, and it really effected the guys. Each song from the album is from a different perspective. These Green Eyes is probably the best indie band I have ever heard. They have great writing ability and amazing showmanship. Dont put your opinion out on them so fast. Take a listen to a few songs and pay attention. Thier words might get to you, they might change somthing in you.
Colin, Zach, Greg, Mark, Jeff.. You guys are amazing.
