Trespassers William

When some people see the word “ambient” in a music description, they think of elevator music or doctor’s office music. While the tunes of Trespassers William are rather easy to listen to and do provide a soothing atmosphere, this is hardly music for occupying the mind on a ride to the 27th floor of a skyscraper.

“catch not break” from the natural order of things has the water-gurgling style and electronic effects that some search for in ambient/background music. It is not a particularly involving song. It’s more an engaging song, one that catches the ear.

Band members and sound contributors are Matt Brown (guitar, keyboards, bass), Ross Simonini (bass, guitar, keyboards), Nathan Skolrud (drums) and Anna-Lynne Williams (vocals, guitar). Hailing from Seattle, Washington, this group not only chooses to sound a bit different by making ambient music, it also chooses to use lower case letters in all the titles. While e.e. cummings might be pleased, this listener still doesn’t get the significance. Rebelliousness, I guess. Flipping the bird at the man, and all that.

“lie in the sound” (different stars 2004 Nettwerk) is a nice ballad featuring the voice of Williams. This is one of the more “traditional pieces from the band out of the northwest.

Very interesting. I would have never thought that they sounded like they did. The article is right when you think of ambient the word you would naturally think of the elevator style music. This band was very easy to listen to, but not sure that they would be someone I would listen very often.

They were extremely interesting to listen to. I’ve heard of them before, but never listened to them because of the whole ‘ambient’ association with elevator music. I think I might try and listen to them more often now that I’ve heard them, and discovered that they are interesting, not elevator boring.

I am a fan of Mat Brown (their guitarist). He really turns on the heat and even in slow songs he shows what music can be. His music really touched my heart and now I’ll also recommend their music to my friends as well.

When I think of Ambient, I think of the music that is popular in the underground of other countries. I had a friend once who listened to very atmospheric stuff, though I think that this band beats all that I’d heard before, simply because the vocals are so ethereal and meld so well with sounds that are produced. I’ve definitely become a fan already.

I love the lead vocals. If only they WOULD play this in the elevators it would make the ride up and down and bit easier :-) . Anyways, this is a decent band, but some people will definitely get discouraged by the light yet eerie sound.
