Vitor Cunha
A singer and songwriter from Portugal, Vitor Cunha’s work has a definite folk/country flavor, as his marketing information states. Apparently his love for guitar and for music made him something of a player-in-demand in his home country.
He is certainly a veteran, with a debut CD from 2003 and cooperative efforts with a number of U.S.-based musicians. His collection, Connected by Dots, contains such mellow tunes as the title cut, along with “A Name Meaning Me,” “Feelings I Can’t Ignore” and “The Sailor.” This last selection has some nice horn work in it, while the rolling guitar picking of “Your Own Trickery” is nice. New Year’s Resolution is a good example of the country sound that Cunha strives for.
“Nothing At All” has the vocal harmony and the lilting rhythm that helps it fit into the folk ballad category, along with the nice tune, “Sarah.”
Cunha provides the guitars, plays keyboards and sings, while a strong group of musicians joins the effort. These players include: Kurt Baumer – fiddle; Tommy Detamore – pedal steel guitar; Ben Christa – drums; Nervous Neal Smith – saxophone; Albert Syeles – accordion; Ricardo Guimaraes, Fernando Costa and Nuno Guimaraes on backup vocals.
Cunha has also started to establish a strong Web presence, with a digital store and a link to the source for his CDs.
