Sunjack

SunjackThe most prominent comment on this folk/folk rock performer is that his voice is “reminiscent of John Lennon,” according to Trace Ventura of CFOX radio in Vancouver. This is high praise and is accurate. The music from Sunshine Alibi does sound similar to some of the Lennon ballads of decades ago. This influence shouldn’t be a surprise considering that Sunjack starts his bio material with a reference to an album by The Beatles that was a present from his grandmother. Hearing that quality music at the age of 13 would stick with anyone who had musical aspirations.

First-time listeners will be pleasantly surprised by the controlled sound of “Stay,” which is made even more enjoyable by the crystal-clear guitar and the full studio treatment. This holds true for “Sunshine Alibi,” the title tune for the CD.

This Vancouver-based singer/songwriter comes from a solid musical background, with definitive Irish flavor. Some of that age-old influence is evident in the title cut and in such songs as “Perfect World.” The singer states that this is his favorite song on this collection, not a surprise really. It does have a nice melody line and some ear-catching instrumentation.

For those who are just being introduced to Sunjack with Sunshine Alibi might want to take a trip back to Everytime and listen to “Insane” or “Loud as a Bell.” There are some slight differences from CD to CD, but these two tunes really show the Lennon similarities. Worth listening to several times.
