The Tamboureens

The TamboureensOK, you had me with the guitar that starts “Girl.”

The Tamboureens are not from England and they are not the reincarnation of early Beatles. This is a York, Pennsylvania group with considerable pop/50s rock talent. The aptly named “Song Two” has a bit quicker pace than song one, but it seems that the vocals do bring back some thoughts of Buddy Holly. Music lovers who are into pop and some of the softer style of rock from decades ago will enjoy this gathering.

The Tamboureens invite all listeners to get off their seats and dance to the “low-down” beat, a real possibility with “Song Two.” For something a bit different, lock into “Mrs. Belaview,” which might dredge up some thoughts of The Turtles, Winchester Cathedral and again, The Beatles. This listener is more inclined to The Dave Clark Five for comparison. There is enough of the new to separate this group from those rock foundations. (Check out the guitar and organ on Mrs. Belaview – It’s Janis Joplin/Big Brother meets Booker T. on LSD).

The group will be all over Pennsylvania and then wander into New York during April and May. Look for some sharply dressed musicians and listen for a nice overall sound.
